2012 Sketchbook Project

Brooklyn, NYC, New York

London, England

Portland, Maine

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Participating in the 2012 International Sketchbook Project. Participants get a booklet, fill it up, mail it in and it travels for almost a year before being archived in the Brooklyn Art Library. I sketched different architecture in the cities hosting this years traveling show. Quick, clean modern collages that inspired my city collages available on my online shop.

This is a great idea/show and should try and catch it when they come to SF in June 2-23rd.

that situation never happened

“all that she said was true”… as I type, listening to You’ve been flirting again by Bjork.
My last/past posts have not been as, je ne sais, dynamic?, engaging? as I wanted, so plan to provide more story this year.
I always love experimenting with art, collaging, drawing, photos. I’ve been in a watercolor mood lately.

Here is some inspiration by the lovely British (now in LA) artist Cate Parr.

Mediation 2

“Meditation 2″

Rosa by Cate Parr

“Rosa”

Not cities, but inspiration comes from anywhere! I actually find fashion magazines and flowers (perhaps certain people, sometimes) to be my most influential subjects. Having some trouble with my formatting here, so this post doesn’t quite look as I’d planned- all in one column.  Without more delay, to the left are some of my Tour Eiffel watercolors.

Eiffel Tower I (Violet) | 9 x 12″ | Watercolor on Arches Paper

Watercolor by Oana Barac-Matei

Eiffel Tower II | 9 x 12″ | Watercolor on Arches paper

Eiffel Tower Mixed Media by Oana Barac-Matei

Eiffel Tower V (Peach) | 9 x 12| Watercolor and Collaged Heart

The originals are available on Etsy. Could make a great gift for Valentines!

xoxo,
O.

Colorful Victorians

Alamo Square: Colorful Painted Ladies, December 2011

*Showing latest originals at Merch through April 4, 2012!

Merch: 629A Haight Street, San Francisco

Fun Fact: I always thought the Painted Ladies refered to the infamous victorians across from Alamo Square- the ones of Full House Fame (which after watching the opening credits, not sure it looks like any of those homes, but none the less!) . However, it’s a general term:  “Painted ladies” is a term used for Victorian and Edwardian houses and buildings painted in three or more colors that embellish or enhance their architectural details”…(wiki for more info)
